Since Debian 12 it is even more difficult to install the operating system if you only want free firmware by default :D
1:43 Shit! Right that's the problem! Why TF programmer make product for user if he don't have user exp., so you know what to improve?
well, desktops got eliminated artificially, remember those articles back in 2013, about how desktops would go extinct and taken over by laptops? creating FUD among ppl, so ppl won't get desktops and it kinda worked, sadly
There is no such thing as the GNU+Linux system
who let this homeless man in here? Said Linus calmly
Need to speak English.
Where is christie ?
For a moment I thought that Linus was wearing a Captain Kirk tshirt
What about ChatGPT?
“When someone else wrote the code you don’t get that choice” .. nailed it
“When someone else wrote the code you don’t get that choice” .. nailed it
Linus nailed it.
It's for 12 years ago. Now everything is changed. Linux is getting desktop, too.
Another stupid azzz upload
This guy knows what's up lol.
linocks
He's right about the "sticky" distro. I started my Linux life with Unbuntu, so that's what I typically use even if another distro would be more suitable. I'm just used to it and I don't have to go rooting through forums posts and stackoverflow posts to get simple things done.
Easy to install or not, Debian is a backwards, ancient distro that is a PITA to run modern dev tools on. I have a seething hatred of Debian and all of its bastard children and won't use any of them.
"Why Linux Is Not Successful On Desktop?" If you have ever tried to use the default Linux screen recorder tool, or God forbid - ffmpeg... You probably already know the answer.
If java is so bad how comes minecraft be programmed in it?
Anyone else got this randomly recommended in 2024?
If you haven't completed a project in Java you have no right to speak.
Gentoo&Arch Linux: Pardon? What did you say about installing Debian? (lol
Futuristic prediction. Most work is done inside a browser.
He uses Fedora,as can be found in Wikipedia. ''Linus Torvalds, author of the Linux kernel, says he uses Fedora because it had fairly good support for PowerPC when he used that processor architecture. He became used to the operating system and continues to use it''.
i myself found debian quite easy to install! the second time i installed it, that is.
So basically Red Hat today is doing the exactly the opposite : it uses Linux but if you don't pay you can't receive back
thanks now I'm never gonna use GPL3
they want to make opensource a democracy
Virus love Windows.
The irony of getting an Ubuntu ad under the video 😂
I think almost the same way as Linus. To me, everyone should be granted a baseline of respect, just to keep things civil, and any level of respect beyond that baseline must be earned. The baseline is also not permanent and must be reciprocated, otherwise your right to baseline respect is revoked.
Richard and Linus, are my all time heroes
16:50 Linus "Very working code flow" Torvalds
Hard disagree with Linus here. The social contract he points to is, and has always been, based on the 4 freedoms that define "Free software". The second freedom, "Freedom 1" (counting starts at 0), states that recipients of your software are allowed to make modifications and _run their modified versions._ Tivoization violates this freedom by preventing the recipients to _run_ their modified versions. What's preventing a company employing Tivoization from giving me access to a version of the source code that appears benign, while the real application has nefarious code in it that I'm not aware of? Nothing, because since I can not run the software, not even an unmodified version I compiled myself, I can not inspect that the compiled application does indeed do exactly what the source code I've been given would suggest. If I can not inspect the code that runs on my devices, I can not trust it either. Linus states that as long as he gets access to your modifications, he's good. But this is not a right granted under the GPL, not even under v2. In fact, nobody is under any obligation to contribute their patches back to him. Only the recipients of the modified software are entitled to the modified source code. They are then free to share the modified source code with the general public, or with specific people of their choosing, including with the author directly. But they are _under no obligation_ to do so, and unless the author is himself a recipient of the modified software, _he is in no way, shape or form entitled to the modified source code._ The GPL is not intended to benefit the original author of the source code; it's intended to benefit _its users._
nice try xz
Wow!!! I'm so glad that I changed from Ubuntu years ago.
Who are the people mentioned in 25:46?
a bunch people (who dont know how to do binary addition) talking about software security, wa ha ha... good laugh.
Debian instaler is most counterintuitive POS ever , fuck whoever made it !!! Just open gparted or something , this is torture to use and partition the disk .
This guy is a liar... trump stole the election? What about the big guy? The russia gate???!
He did not mention Ubuntu?
We're supposed to feel it's implied because Ubuntu is the most popular Debian fork and more popular than the original.
I use arch btw
2024: I am fairly early on in my Linux journey, and I have noticed less spyware in my Ubuntu 22.04 LTS simply by switching my desktop environment. In early 2013, Ubuntu was a distribution of GNU/Linux that defaulted to the Unity desktop; this would change from about Ubuntu 17.10 (with 18.04 for LTS users) to GNOME-based desktop environments. Even when I switched from the default Ubuntu desktop to a "vanilla" GNOME desktop, spyware was successfully reduced. Better yet, I had discovered more basic window managers that spy even less, like Openbox, yet I am still using Ubuntu without the graphical spyware.
"...So I can get on with my life." I said something to this effect on another video discussing OS snobs. The essence of an OS is to serve as a means for me to get work done. If setting up the OS is more work than the actual work I need to get done, then that OS is going in the trash.
I would love to see Linus vs Notch as in C vs Java debate.
Back in the day I was a senior systems integrator and core internet architect. I've designed and built a lot of the systems you still use today. I still can't do a power point or excel to save my life.
What god awful parenting advice. sheesh.
Why I see Java code, my eyes burns
